Project Summary

When raiders attack Haven using the cover of the Acid Mist, it is your duty to alert a nearby settlement for help in defending Haven. Will you be able to fight your way through the enemy forces and toxic gas to shoot up the emergency distress flare before it’s too late?

The project was created as part of a larger game project course at FutureGames.

Game Outline

The Flarewatcher is a top-down shooter created for experienced gamers looking for a fierce gameplay experience fused with a gripping narrative.

You play as The Flarewatcher, the designated lookout for the post-apocalyptic settlement of Haven. The weather’s been a constant threat. Acid Rain burns and sours the ground, while Acid Mist fills the air. When the Mist rolls in, burning, clouding all sight, it comes with more danger hiding within. The world is hostile, and the environment serves as an obstacle. You will be dealing with two types of level hazards throughout the game: Acid Mist and toxic puddles formed after heavy rainfall. While shooting at the enemy raiders, you will have to take cover, reload, and manage the mist dispersing grenades at your disposal to clear the way forward.

Game Design

Together with the other designers, we outlined the game, created design documents and defined the mechanics as well as writing the story.
