Project Summary

Heartwars is a board game about creation, destruction and strategizing. Using a variety of different blocks, you'll navigate a terraformable environment in order to eliminate all your opponents by destroying their castles and pushing them out of the map. It's a free-for-all battle: it's everyone against everyone else!

The project was created as part of a larger game project course at Uppsala University Campus Gotland.

Game Outline

Heartwars is a three player local battle-royal style board game. Each player takes turns to destroy and build tiles around them. Players can use different types of tiles to lay traps or sabotage them. Ice tiles slip and slide players, mountain tiles block them and special trampoline tiles throw players.

With the ultimate goal of being the last one standing, players must destroy the enemy castles to stop players from respawning and finally eliminate them by pushing them into the void. Smart players who are able to pick up the special power up in the center of the board will gain the ability to do more each turn, giving them an advantage over the other players.

Game Design

Together with the other designers, we outlined the game, created design documents and defined the mechanics.

My Contribution

Management

I took the role of Project Manager / Scrum Master during this project. I was in charge of scheduling, distributing and keeping track of tasks. As well as guiding the group on the use of Scrum.

2D Art

Created some of the 2D and UI assets in the game.
